Genre and Style.

The official genre is that of 'Drum & Bass' but it also has elements of dubstep and rock; with the break beats and distorted guitar mixed to create anew and innovative sound. The guitar is featured in several of Chase& Status's tracks such as 'Pieces' (see below for link). These two songs have gone against the genre and added new sounds with the acoustic guitar in 'Pieces' and electric guitar in 'Heartbeat'.
Their videos always have a dark theme running throughout with a hint of humour injected. There is also a lot of violence/relationship exploration and representation, often in conjunction with each other. Relationships are shown in a reasonably graphic manner, and the violence is also quite explicit.

The lighting is always very low key with bright flashes throughout and the general colours and visual design also keep too dark tones and even black and white/night vision filters are added in post-production.

In terms of camera work and shot types all techniques etc are used within the range of videos but predominantly mid/long shots and close ups. All of their videos have a narrative running throughout the song which will be shown a lot more than any performance aspect. Although we do see lip synching in all of them, and the occasional instrument the main focus is the storyline/characters etc and the idea of building up a visual representation whether it’s conceptual or more traditional (some are an even mix of both).

We aim to reflect this idea in our video by creating a strong non linear story line too follow throughout, accompanied by lip synching and some instrumental performance based shots, interspersed with choreographed dancers/ravers. Typically the videos stick to a small amount of locations and once again we will be reflecting this by concentrating on only a few different settings.
